When we are young, most of us learn about the world and how to live in it from the most important people in our lives … our parents.
But we all grow up and take over own lives. It's our parents' job to help prepare us to take charge. Some parents are really good at this. And some are really bad. Some don't want us to ever grow up and be on our own. Sometimes we have to make up for the bad by finding relatives, teachers, coaches, ministers and neighbors who can help us.
We don't get to choose our parents and some of us have had really awful experiences growing up. But we can get through it if we stay positive.
